Solar is one of the biggest purchases a household makes, and quotes vary enormously. These published 2026 figures give you a benchmark before installers start quoting.

Published system prices

EnergyBee publishes installed kit pricing and a market range for systems without batteries, and an independent price comparison tracks retailer and installer pricing. See EnergyBee's 2026 rooftop solar cost guide and the 2026 retailer price comparison.

Installed prices should include panels, inverter, mounting, cabling, labour and a Certificate of Compliance. Always confirm what's included in writing.

What changes the price

  • Batteries. Storage is the single biggest cost — a 10kWh lithium battery alone runs around R85,000 installed in published breakdowns.
  • Inverter quality. Entry-level hybrid inverters cost far less than premium brands with longer warranties.
  • Roof and wiring. Roof type, mounting and the state of your DB board affect labour and compliance costs.
  • Sizing. A system matched to your actual electricity bill costs less than an oversized one — published guides suggest sizing from your monthly usage.

Before you accept a quote

  1. Get at least three quotes — published guidance consistently recommends it for solar.
  2. Check that the quote includes the electrical Certificate of Compliance and commissioning.
  3. Ask for panel, inverter and battery brand names and warranty periods in writing.
  4. Confirm the installer is qualified to issue the CoC (a valid wireman's licence).
  5. Compare the monthly finance repayment against your actual Eskom bill, not a promised saving.
